I missed a day of posting here during our streak. Yesterday our son and I played for a while in the morning, representing our fifth day of the extended rink season. We had a blast doing our version of the All-star Game skills contest. We competed in a variety of skills including speed skating, skating thru the cones, stick handling and target shooting. Where it really got interesting is when he brought out a bottle of Gatorade and we used that as the target. I swear we spent half an hour trying to make it explode with slap shots…to no avail. Typical boys at play

Today was President’s Day so all the kids were home. Our boy and I had a lower key day on the rink, including a much later start than usual. In fact, we weren’t the first ones on the ice this morning. Our 11-year old had a private lesson with one of the coaches and a couple of girls from the travel team. They were on the ice and in the sun shortly after 9 am. The ice held up really well despite the glaring sun. They also love it when Wrigley’s out there barking for the puck…he’s so cute! They worked out for about an hour and their exhaustion showed by the end. Our daughter has had practice or a game 11 times over the past 10 days. Good thing a three day break is coming up tomorrow.
Our son and I got on around noon. By then half the ice was covered to keep the sun off but we had a good time shooting and stick handling. He had the most fun using his stick to flip Wrigley’s tennis ball out into the yard (we ran out of “doggy pucks” a few days ago. I only had enough to last till the 14th).
The next two or three days are going to be challenging. The weather will be in the 40′s and rain predicted for one or two of them plus temps won’t dip too low till Friday or Saturday night. To top it all off It’ll be too windy for the cover so it’s outta my hands. If we can survive till then we may have a fighting chance to extend the streak.
